In order to become a truck driver, you need to have certain qualifications, and to get these you must take a series of training examinations. They can be first off fairly expensive, which puts a lot of people off giving it a shot, as you are hoping on finding both the time and funding to get the training. However, with one in every fifteen workers in the United States employed in the trucking industry in one way or another, it is a pretty safe bet that if you do the right things, you will be rewarded with a secure job.
Thankfully, due to the increase in those interested in truck driving, the market is expanding and more grants are being afforded to truck driving schools. This means they can afford to take on more students for less costs, and this allows for more people to come through the system for less or free of charge, allowing more jobs to be created in a competitive market.
There are some very supportive grant organizations out there at the present who are always looking for successful ventures to help progress further, they are the;
Workforce Investment Act – The 1998 WIA act opens up the avenue for potential grants to many citizens and students. To be eligible, you need to complete two different phases, but they do only take your time, so if you have time to spare you can probably become eligible for a grant, but just be prepared for the long-term waiting process. It is best to look into the WIA long-before you look to go into training, as it can really take quite some time.
Pell Grants – Although not exclusively dealing in truck driving schools, the U.S. Department of Education provides the Pell Grant with sponsorship, which helps it provide grants per semester for students. You can fill out a form for the Pell Grant here. Like a bursary in the United Kingdom, you do not have to pay a Pell Grant back. You can also apply for extra loans on top, which of course do have to be paid back, but they provide easy funding that can be paid back when you have employment.
CSRT – The CSRT deal with thirty different schools across the United States, and provide an easy way to get short-term funding, dealing with up to eight month long obligations. This is a good way to get quick access for your qualifications, and pay it back when you find employment.
Swift – The Swift Driving Academy will cover up to $ 3900 of course payments over a 26 month period, should you remain in employment with Swift after your training. These scholarship programs offer a guaranteed position, should you perform and learn well, and they also offer Scholarships worth $ 1000 towards tuition fees for any student who is willing to commit to at least one years’ worth of driving with Swift Transportation.
If you enjoy the roads, then trucking is for you. With over 400 billion miles a year covered by the truckers of America, it offers a great way to see more of the country and earn a very strong salary while doing so. The learning can be difficult at first, but if you try with it and – importantly – receive the right funding, then you can really take a whole new direction with your career.
